Guillermo Del Toro

Wow..Me, my fiance Laurie and my friends just had an incredible movie experience last Friday. We all were gathering to see Hellboy II: The Golden Army at the Arclight in Sherman Oaks, and discovered that we had lost our reserved seats to someone else! While initially upset, the employees informed us that the filmaker himself Guillermo Del Toro wanted to see the movie and then have a Q And A afterward. This was a completely unplanned event, and I guess Universal wanted to accomodate him. We had awesome seats, as we bought these tix way in advance. The theater offered to seat us separately and for free , so we accepted. Who are we to turn down the Director of this movie? We then went over to the Arclight restaurant to have a bite to eat, and the Universal staff comes up to us with bags full Hellboy swag to apologize for putting us out of our seats which included a beautiful poster drawn by Mike Mignola autographed by Guillermo, Doug "Abe Sapien" Jones, and Hellboy himself, Ron Perlman! A little later ,who gets sat down in the next booth but Guillermo Del Toro himself and his wife! We all went up to him before showtime to say hello and to tell him that it was us that he took the seats from, and told us that he actually doesn't stay for screenings because he get too nervous! The Universal guys told him right then that the seats were actually for the effects guys from Spectral Motiion who did all of the unbelievable creatures in the film. Guillermo then introduced the movie and had a Q and A afterwards which, if you've ever been to an after screening Q and A with him, is an inspiring experience. All in all, it was an amazing night, none of which was planned at all, but turned out to be one truly fun movie night. Gracias, Guillermo!

Abe Sapien

Here's a drawing I did of Hellboy's resident fishman Abe Sapien played by Doug Jones. I'm stoked to see the latest Hellboy movie, I thought I'd do a drawing of Abe, one of my favorite characters. I did it for my comic club fanzine back home in Hawaii. I love drybrush...

Tigers!

Here's more zoo drawings. They have a bunch of juvenile Tigers at the zoo now, and they're really fun to draw when they're frolicking around. On this particular day, however, it was all about sleep. I still enjoyed drawing them, though.

Zoo Drawings

I haven't been back to draw at the zoo for a really long time, so it feels great to use our current hiatus to draw animals on a regular basis. I'm pretty rusty, but I think I'll improve with each visit...

Scene Folder sketch

I often do a little drawing on the backs of our scene folders here on the Simpsons, just to take a little break from drawing only Bug-eyed, yellow-skinned tube shaped characters all day. So here's something I just drew on a whim, without really planning what I was gonna do. Just havin' a bit of fun!

Convention Geeks

Went to the"Supernatural" convention at the Airport Marriott last weekend with my Fiance Laurie ( She's a Huge fangirl for this show...) and I took the opportunity to field sketch the crowd. An interesting collection of humanity! A gold mine for drawing.

Writers back!

Here's a page from my sketchbook at the animatic meeting at Gracie Films on the Fox lot. I just sketched some of the writers while we were waiting for the meeting to start. I was a relief that they resolved the strike and we could all get back to work. I was worried that it could've gone on for a LOT longer. Whew!
